Marie Curie Collectors. We are looking for people over 18 years old (or over 16 with the parent supporting on the day) to join the Marie Curie collections locally. Anyone can collect for 2 or more hours and help us make Kent yellow again and to raise vital funds to support and care for people with any terminal illness.
The Great Daffodil Appeal is back and end of life charity Marie Curie is urgently calling for volunteers in Bexley to give just two hours of their time to hand out the charity’s iconic daffodil pins in return for donations. All across the country supporters will be donning the infamous giant yellow top hats in supermarkets, train stations and on high streets for the Great Daffodil Appeal - Marie Curie’s flagship fundraiser, which has now been running for 37 years. Marie Curie is dependent on public donations and last year the money raised helped the charity provide direct care to more than 46,000 people across the UK via its nine hospices and through overnight nursing care in people’s own homes. Donations also support its Information and Support line, which provides a listening ear to anyone dealing with any aspect of death, dying and bereavement. Anyone can collect for 2 or more hours and help us make Kent yellow again and to raise vital funds to support and care for people with any terminal illness. The local collections are: All Morrisons in Kent : 29 February, 1 - 2 March, 7 - 9 March 2024 Sittingbourne Asda 16-Mar-24 Ashford Asda 16-Mar-24 West Malling Asda 22 and 23 -Mar-24 Canterbury Asda 22 and 23 Mar-24 Folkestone Asda 23-Mar-24 Gravesend Asda 30-Mar-24 Belvedere Asda 13 - 14 -Apr-24 We are not allowed to shake our collection tins, but a friendly smile and a hello is fine! Anyone can have a daffodil pin, no matter the value of their donation, as we are keen to see as many people wearing a daffodil as possible! Collections run from 9:00 to 17:00, in 2 hours slots (9:00 - 11:00, 11:00 - 13:00, 13:00 -15:00, 15:00 - 17:00). The supermarkets will limit the number of collections at any time at 2 (there are some expectations; please as if necessary). Anyone can collect alone or with friends and family. Volunteers can book to help online at https://collect.mariecurie.org.uk/ or contact the local community fundraiser or by showing an interest in the role on the platform. How your collection will help Everyone deserves comfort and peace at the end of life. But every five minutes, someone dies without the care and support they need. And demand for care is rising. Your collection helps us make sure that we can be there for more people at the end of their lives, in their homes and in hospices. £25 pays for a bereavement counsellor to listen, soothe and support someone who's grieving for an hour. £44 pays for an hour of clinical support from an expert nurse via our Support Line, so there's always someone with the right knowledge and experience to answer questions about terminal illness. £207 pays for a nine-hour shift of expert care and emotional support for someone living with a terminal illness, in the comfort of their own home. £390 sponsors a hospice bed for a day, meaning someone living with a terminal illness can get expert care when they need it most.
