Detailed Description

Why do we need you? The Darent Valley Farmer Cluster is comprised of farmers and landowners who are committed to sustainably farming and managing this precious landscape. We need the support of committed local volunteers to help sustainably carry out surveys and other conservation activities each year. You will be vital to helping us understand the wildlife present in the Darent Valley and how this changes each year, as we increase the area and connectivity of natural habitats through our collaborative environmental projects. A day in your life might include: Bird surveys Pollinator surveys Hedgerow surveys Other farmland conservation based activities

Why these skills are required

-Enthusiastic. -Wildlife survey experience would be advantageous/useful however it is not essential as some basic training will be provided. -Knowledge of UK farmland birds and pollinator insects is -beneficial but you will learn in the role. -A passion for nature and wildlife. Considerations: -Required to travel to remote sites. -Own vehicle (or ability to travel to farms). -A smart phone.

What is in it for you

Workshops, including basic training survey techniques and key species identification will be provided. Opportunity to support important conservation work and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Darent Valley.

Time Commitment

The project runs throughout the year. Pollinator surveys usually July/August (workshop in May). Summer breeding bird surveys usually twice per site between April and June. Winter bird surveys usually twice per site between November and February. Hedgerow survey in August-September. There may be opportunities to participate in other priority species surveys and activities during the year.
