Volunteer Baker / coffee shop assistant

Fusion Maidstone HLC

Help our catering and coffee shop team to prepare and serve a range of freshly baked cakes, biscuits and scones in our charity café. You will also learn about stock rotation and deliveries. Depending on the day you volunteer you might also be involved in preparing 3 course meals (soup, main course and desert) and/or supporting the team to prepare food for externally catered events.

Detailed Description

Fusion is a local charity that works with the community to help reduce health and social inequalities in Park Wood and throughout the Maidstone area. The café provides local residents with a place to socialise, get advice and to buy healthy and affordable food. Once a week Fusion provides a free 3 course lunch for 20 local people. The café also creates a wide range of buffets for external events as a way of raising funds for our projects. We are looking for people with an interest in baking to join us to: • Prepare a range of sweet dishes e.g. cakes, scones and biscuits (including some diabetic/gluten free/dairy free options) • Prepare food in a safe, hygienic way (including being aware of allergies and dietary requirements) • Complete record sheets • Check deliveries • Rotate stock • Wash up and clean the kitchen • Help make suggestions about menus and new items • Provide excellent customer service • Provide a welcoming environment • Assist colleagues at all levels to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen and coffee shop

Time Commitment

1-2 hours per week (10am-2pm) on either a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. If you would like to volunteer for more than 1 day/more hours, this can also be possible.
