Breastfeeding Peer Supporter

Volunteer Breastfeeding Peer Supporters are mums who have breastfed their own babies and received around 12 weeks of training to enable them to support families with more straightforward breastfeeding questions at one of our community groups in West Kent.

Detailed Description

Volunteer Breastfeeding Peer Supporters are mums who have breastfed their own babies and received around 12 weeks of training to enable them to support families with more straightforward breastfeeding questions. Peer Supporters are there to listen, empathise with and support, as well as providing up to date information on breastfeeding and related topics alongside our specialist practitioners. We ask that volunteers commit to volunteering at least once a month once they have completed their training at our community groups. Our groups currently run every Monday in Tunbridge Wells, Tuesday in Tonbridge and Friday in Otford.

Why these skills are required

To train as a peer supporter you need to have experience breastfeeding your own baby and have an interest in helping other local families.

What is in it for you

This training is a great opportunity for those with young children to gain knowledge, skills and confidence which have helped past volunteers go on to new careers as midwives, nurses, doulas and breastfeeding specialists. Training and volunteering can be completed with young children.

Time Commitment

Training includes 12 x 2 hour sessions of in-person training. We then ask that you commit to volunteering at least once a month after your training is complete.
