Wilder Blean Greeter Volunteer

Help our ground breaking Wilder Blean project by being a friendly face on site helping visitors enjoy the woodland

Detailed Description

Why do we need you? The Wilder Blean project is a huge, ground breaking project and we can’t do it alone! From spring 2022 European Bison, Long Horn Cattle, Exmoor Ponies and Iron Age Pigs will arrive in the woodland and we need volunteers to help this introduction go smoothly. We need volunteers to help us share information with visitors, provide directions, and share information about the wildlife in the woodland. We also need volunteers to help us make sure that we’re all looking after the wildlife in the woodland by ensuring visitors abide by the code of conduct when in the woodland. Such as ensuring responsible dog behaviour, preventing littering and keeping a distance from livestock. A day in your life might include Greeting visitors to the woodland. Providing information such as directions, wildlife facts. Encouraging visitors to abide by the site code of conduct. Must be able to get to West Blean and Thornden Woods regularly. 1 shift (4 hours) per week but we are flexible. DBS check will be necessary for this role. Open to applicants aged 18 and over. The next available training days are in September 2022 and January 2023.

Why these skills are required

-No previous experience required. -This role requires training prior to starting. -You should be happy to work outdoors in all weathers. -Willing to work as part of a team and/or to work alone. -Be personable, chatty and not afraid to strike up a conversation. -You’ll need to enjoy meeting new people. -Comfortable working around large livestock including Long horn cattle, Exmoor ponies and Iron Age pigs. -Excellent listening and interpersonal skills. -A passion for nature and wildlife. -A want to share the message of wilding.

What is in it for you

Volunteers will receive training in how to behave around large livestock. You will only be asked to do work you are comfortable with. Volunteers may receive training in managing difficult situations/conflict management. Reasonable expenses can be paid
