Detailed Description

Kent Wildlife Trust's coastal teams need your help to deliver engaging events and surveys across the county. This role would be ideal for those wanting to start a career in marine/coastal conservation or those wanting to spend more time along the coastline. Why do we need you? Staff at Kent Wildlife Trust lead exciting and engaging events across the Kent coastline, raising awareness of these important ecosystems. These coastal team’s need help from volunteers to increase their potential reach at these events and engage as many people with their local coastline as possible. The events will range from coastal surveys like ShoreSearch to engagement events at some of our largest coastal reserves e.g. Sandwich & Pegwell Bay. We need people who are enthusiastic about sharing wildlife knowledge and advice with the general public and are willing to learn more about the coastal environment through these events. You’ll be vital in increasing Kent Wildlife Trusts presence at events, helping us to protect sensitive and important nature reserves across the Kent coast. What will you be doing? You’ll be attending a range of coastal events to support the event lead. Depending on the type of events you choose to volunteer at, you could be getting up close and personal to the coast helping to conduct ShoreSearch surveys, supporting staff on local stalls, helping sign in and signpost attendees at Beach Cleans, or being an extra pair of hands on a coastal walk. You will be enthusing people about the local wildlife and why we need to protect them. Offering friendly advice to people about using the site appropriately. You could also be helping to set up and pack away equipment at local events.

Flexible Enthusiastic Willing to work as part of a team A want to share the message of Kent Wildlife Trust Be personable, chatty and not afraid to strike up a conversation. Considerations: The volunteer role is open to applicants over the age of 18. A DBS check will be required for this role. Reasonable expenses can be paid. It would be beneficial to have your vehicle to access sites. You will need to be physically fit as some of the reserves have rough terrain, tussocks, boggy ground etc. that you need to be able to negotiate.
