Volunteer for Art & Design Saturday Club for Teenagers

The Margate School of Art

We are looking for volunteers to help support our Art & Design Saturday Club for teens aged 13-16.

Detailed Description

We are looking for volunteers to help support our Art & Design Saturday Club for teens aged 13-16. The Club runs on Saturday mornings and gives young people from Margate and Thanet the chance to explore art and design skills with support from local artists and practitioners. We'd love volunteers who can help with: - Supporting workshop facilitation alongside our lead tutors - Sharing their own creative practice or expertise with the group - General session support (setup, materials, encouraging participation)

Activities you will be doing

What skills are required for this role

Talking To Others, Listening, Teamwork, Creative & Design

Why these skills are required

Volunteers for the Art & Design Saturday Club will need an Enhanced DBS check with Children's Barred List (since they'll be working with 13–16 year olds), along with basic safeguarding awareness and reliable attendance on the Saturdays they commit to. Beyond that, no formal qualifications are required - some familiarity with an art or design discipline (like photography, ceramics, printmaking, or graphic design) is helpful, as is comfort working with teenagers and good communication skills, but enthusiasm and a willingness to support and encourage young people matters more than technical expertise.

What is in it for you

Volunteers will gain hands-on mentoring and teaching experience working with teenagers, which looks great on a CV or portfolio for anyone pursuing careers in education, youth work, or the arts. They'll build valuable community engagement experience and have the chance to develop leadership, communication, and workshop facilitation skills. It's also a great opportunity for creative professionals or students to share and refine their own practice, network with other local artists and practitioners, and give back to the Margate and Thanet community by helping widen access to arts education. On a personal level, many volunteers find real satisfaction in watching young people grow in confidence and discover new creative pathways.
