School Governor
Greenfields Community Primary School
To support the school’s work serving children and families in our local community.
We meet six times per year, usually Thursdays at 4.30pm, either in person or via Teams. Governors discuss key strategic areas e.g. school development, finance, premises, health and safety, safeguarding, and policies. Between meetings, governors carry out occasional monitoring visits at school. The role is varied and rewarding and the Governing Body is friendly and welcoming. No prior experience is required; free training and ongoing support are provided. Governors bring knowledge, skills and experience from diverse walks of life and professional backgrounds.

Teamwork
No prior experience is required; free training and ongoing support are provided. The most important thing is willingness to work as part of a team. All new governors are asked to complete a skills audit questionnaire to give a picture of the Governing Body’s overall skillset and to help identify any training areas for the group as a whole. There are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers to this questionnaire, and no particular academic qualifications are required.
For some people, a voluntary governance role might provide useful, transferable skills and knowledge. For some, it can provide a way of continuing to use valuable skills and experience beyond retirement. Governor training is provided via a combination of face-to-face and online courses which are free to access for governors.
No regular weekly commitment. Instead, six Full Governing Body meetings per year, typically Thursday at 4.30pm for approx. two hours. Dates are reviewed and set annually for each school year and are sometimes subject to change depending on governors' availability to attend. Monitoring visits are arranged flexibly throughout the year to suit governors' own availability and the school calendar. Online attendance at meetings is also an option.
