Volunteer Gardener – Pearce Coggan Foundation Wildlife & Community Garden

Pearce Coggan Foundation

Love nature? Join our Tuesday garden volunteers, learn new skills & help our community garden thrive

Detailed Description

Join our friendly garden team at the Pearce Coggan Foundation’s Wildlife & Community Garden at Green Farm. We’re looking for regular Tuesday volunteers to work alongside Shelly and Nerys. No gardening experience is needed – just an interest in nature and being outdoors. You could help with wildlife-friendly gardening, no-dig growing, planting, food growing, composting and habitat creation. You’ll learn practical skills, meet others and spend time outdoors while helping create a thriving garden that supports wildlife, wellbeing and the wider community.

What skills are required for this role

Teamwork, Listening

Why these skills are required

No previous gardening experience is required. Volunteers need a reasonable level of mobility and should be comfortable working outdoors, bending or kneeling and carrying items such as full watering cans. You’ll need to be able to listen to and follow instructions and work safely alongside a small team. It’s a lovely opportunity to be part of something meaningful and see the difference your contribution makes – from watching something you’ve planted grow to harvesting vegetables you’ve helped nurture. The garden provides a welcoming sanctuary for the local community, while produce grown here is also used for retreats and community events at Green Farm. Many tasks can be done independently, while still giving you the opportunity to feel part of the wider garden team.

What is in it for you

Volunteering in the garden offers the opportunity to: Learn practical skills in gardening, food growing, no-dig methods, composting, conservation and wildlife-friendly gardening. Build skills and experience that could support future volunteering, training or paid work in gardening, horticulture or conservation. Spend regular time outdoors and experience the wellbeing benefits of connecting with nature. Build confidence, routine and a sense of purpose. Meet new people and make connections while being part of a friendly, supportive team. Enjoy the satisfaction of seeing what you have planted and cared for grow and develop. Feel proud of contributing to a garden that benefits wildlife and provides a welcoming space and produce for the local community.

Time Commitment

Volunteers are welcome to join us once a week on Tuesdays, between 9am and 5pm. You can volunteer for the morning, afternoon or the full day, depending on your availability. We would ideally like people who can come regularly, as this gives you the opportunity to get to know the garden, develop your skills and see the results of your contribution over time.
