We are seeking new trustees to lead the team in maintaining and preserving Chiddingstone Castle.
We are seeking new trustees who will work with the team to: • ensure good governance • set strategic direction • monitor and deliver our shared vision and strategy • comply with museum standards and accreditation • ensure statutory policies exist and are upheld There have been some significant changes to our trustee board this year, so as a new trustee you will have the opportunity to build the future of Chiddingstone Castle to ensure we continue to deliver our vision for our visitors and for future generations.

Successful candidates will bring a wide range of experience and knowledge as well as dedication to supporting Chiddingstone Castle and its mission. At present, our priority is for someone with the skills and experience required for Treasurer/Finance and Legal Trustee roles. We also welcome applicants with skills, knowledge and experience in the following areas: • Fundraising leadership (major donors, philanthropy, corporate sponsorship) • Commercial and business development (earned income models) • Community engagement with strong grassroots links • Historic property and buildings management Applicants should preferably work or live within reach of Chiddingstone Castle. Ideally, they should be able to regularly attend meetings and visit the Castle in person, but this is not essential if they meet the other role criteria. Applicants must be over the age of 18 and eligible to work in the UK. They, or members of their immediate family, should have no potential conflict of interest through other roles. The role of Trustee at Chiddingstone Castle is voluntary and unpaid, but out-of-pocket expenses may be claimed.
This role is an opportunity to: • Ensure excellent governance of an accredited museum and historic house at a defining moment • Help ensure Chiddingstone Castle is sustainable for future generations • Leave a lasting legacy through thoughtful, inclusive, and resilient leadership
We are looking for trustees who can commit a minimum of 8 hours per month.
