Youth Peer Mentors use their experiences to support peers and promote youth participation.
Empower young people to support their peers under the supervision of staff members, helping to create a supportive environment where individuals feel safe to share experiences and develop personal and leadership skills. Lead and support volunteers within youth groups, encouraging participation, teamwork, and the development of confidence and responsibility in group settings. Contribute to the delivery of social media initiatives by acting as a digital ambassador, helping to engage wider audiences and promote community programmes, campaigns, and opportunities for young people.

Skills, knowledge, and interests include a strong commitment to issues affecting young people, with confident digital skills or a willingness to develop them. The role requires empathy, active listening, and the ability to support and empower peers, particularly under-represented groups. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential, alongside maintaining professional confidentiality, understanding young people’s needs, following safeguarding procedures, and adapting flexibly to support families and services.
Gain valuable experience supporting families, children, and young people while making a positive community impact. Access training in key areas such as mental health, nutrition, and safeguarding. Develop new skills in mentoring and community support. Build relationships with families and volunteers, fostering a sense of belonging. Work within a supportive, like-minded team improving wellbeing and social connections.
