Driving Volunteer
Demelza
Driving volunteers help support Demelza in so many ways, from helping with transport for children and families to medical appointments, to delivering therapy bags, equipment and seasonal gifts to family homes. Whether you are able to undertake small local drives, or happy to help get our families a bit further afield, every volunteer contribution makes a huge difference to our families and removes a practical barrier from their day-to-day lives.
Driving volunteers help support Demelza families in so many ways. Whether you are happy to undertake small local drives or help a bit further afield, it is such a help to our families and the staff supporting them. Tasks can include helping families get to and from the hospice or taking them to medical appointments, taking children or families to our activities allowing them to take part in things they are not normally able to, collecting or delivering essential equipment and helping delivery family support activity bags, therapy bags and treats such as Easter Eggs and Christmas presents. You must have held your full driving licence for 2yrs and be aged over 21. You can use your own vehicle for some of these activities, providing they are able to meet insurance requirements. Alternatively, you can drive a Demelza car or mini bus subject to licence restrictions. All driving volunteers must undertake a DBS check when joining Demelza at the enhanced level, including barred list information. Because you will be driving on behalf of Demelza, we will also need to see your driving licence, and any MOT or Insurance documents if you are using your own vehicle.

UK Driving Licence
Volunteers must hold a full UK driving licence with at least 2 years driving experience to undertake this volunteer role.
Driving families provides a really rewarding experience for volunteers who are able to see first hand the difference they are making to families and young people in the region by providing this service. Volunteers also receive up to date training, including passenger assistance and vehicle familiarisation training and First Aid if they wish to undertake this. The role is also extremely flexible and can fit round ongoing commitments. There is no minimum or maximum amount of hours you are asked to give, we just ask that you are looking to commit to the role for a minimum of 12 months.
