Independent visitors are volunteers who befriend and support children and young people who are looked after by Croydon council. All children looked after should, by law, be offered the chance to have an independent visitor. Volunteer Independent visitors can make a real difference to a young person by sharing a hobby, sport, or interest. They can help with school or college work or help a young person learn about their own or other people's culture. They meet regularly with a young person to do activities together, talk, be supportive and have fun.
You get to make a difference in the life of a child who has had a difficult start to life. You get to have fun; enjoying a range of activities that you will decide with the child. You will have the support of an experienced volunteer coordinator.
One or two activity visits per month for a duration of at least one or two years. However, ideally, you will develop a supportive relationship that lasts into adulthood and beyond.
