Our Practical Support Volunteers provide a service helping families in Kent with practical tasks in their homes or out in the community. Some of the key tasks our volunteer team have helped with so far include deep cleaning, gardening, ironing and decorating. Caring for children with terminal conditions can be physically and emotionally draining, taking a huge amount of time, so by helping with these everyday tasks Demelza gives parents and carers more time to spend as a family. Becoming a practical support volunteer is a big commitment but it provides a rewarding opportunity and directly helps our families and children. Previous care or family support experience is not essential as all relevant training will be provided to assist you in this role.

You do not need to have any professional training or qualifications to help with support in family homes. We will ask you what you enjoy doing and ensure that we only ask you about family tasks that you are comfortable undertaking.
Helping families with day-to-day tasks gives a send of satisfaction knowing you have made a huge difference, and are allowing a family more time to enjoy being together. Being able to help in this small way ensures our families can focus on the important things.
