Gleaning is the act of collecting leftover crops from farmer’s fields.
General Gleaning Role: Being part of the Gleaning Team Be reliable, friendly, flexible, and supportive Enthusiastic and have an interest in helping the success of the project. Picking or sorting surplus crops (this is physical work often on uneven farmland and in all weathers.) You will need to be confident in speaking with our lovely suppliers. You will be friendly and approachable, have a positive attitude and be keen to help make a difference for our shop and customers. You will be content driving alone and then speaking with our supplier briefly when you arrive (they will be expecting you, know you are a volunteer giving your own time, and they are all lovely people who want to support our shop too!)
This is an excellent personal development opportunity! You will gain confidence and experience working as part of the wonderful SE Food Projects Team. You will be helping to protect the planet, helping your community by reducing waste and helping to feed people. Training and ongoing support will be provided throughout your time with us, with the option of undertaking further training to help you continue the role if needed. You will learn about food systems and sustainability and make a tangible difference in your community.
