Ashford conservation volunteers needed
Ashford Volunteers for Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership
Working outdoors on Wednesdays, joining our existing volunteer team to improve wildlife habitat
The role is volunteering to do practical tasks, somewhere in and around Ashford, improving, creating or maintaining valuable wildlife habitat. You would be joining an existing band of friendly volunteers. We go out every Wednesday to different locations to help landowners of all kinds, look after their wildlife areas. The type of work depends on the season, we work in woods, meadows, rivers and on the downs. KSCP provide the tools and some training to ensure you enjoy a safe day working outside. Enjoy healthy exercise, good company and know you are making a difference.

No skills required, but a reasonable level of good health needed as tasks are quite physical. That doesn't mean you have to be super fit, as everyone's contribution is appreciated, but we do use manual tools and have a job to do at each place we work. You should also be able to cope reasonably well with different types of ground conditions, as they vary from site to site, we expect uneven ground and it can be a bit hilly in places. An ability to follow simple instructions is needed and you will be working with a team, and alongside at least one person - as no-one is allowed to work on their own.
There are so many great things about this kind of work. But briefly there are lots of amazing physical and mental health benefits to being outdoors with like minded people who enjoy nature and are collectively doing what they can to help it. Along the way, you will learn more about nature and wildlife, plus gain practical skills in lovely surroundings.
Ideally we are looking for regular volunteers that can commit to most Wednesdays. We understand that initially no-one can make a long-term promise, and all our volunteers take holidays, have family commitments etc. If a new volunteer would like to come out with us for one task first to see how they feel about it, they would be most welcome. We are also happy to accept volunteers for a more time limited length of time, but would suggest that a month might be a minimum.

We cover the Ashford area quite broadly, from Pluckley, Hothfield and nearby, in Ashford town (green spaces), Wye and other locations.
As each week can be different we cannot provide directions, other than to the pick up/drop off point (for those that need a lift) at the Stour Centre TN23 1ET (by the car park / sk8side)
