Volunteer Shed Head

Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable

A Shed Head is a competent person who must be present whenever the Shed is open and jobs are being undertaken, acting as a ‘champion’ for the Shed and promoting and upholding its objectives. They welcome and provide help, support and guidance to shed members - ‘shedders’.

Detailed Description

• Oversee Shed day-to-day shed activities, dealing at the time with any problems arising. • Discuss and agree with the members the projects that are to be undertaken, giving due consideration to the resources required, including finance, materials, equipment, manpower and skills. • Act as a ‘champion’ for the Shed, promoting and upholding its objectives. • Welcome and provide help, support, and guidance to members. • Ensure that members always abide by the Shed Terms and Conditions and the Workshop Rules. • Provide instruction, training and support on the safe use of tools and equipment. • Maintain an Equipment Competency Record for each Member. • Ensure the Shed provides a clean and safe working environment. • Ensure that members use personal protection equipment whenever appropriate. • Record the details of any accident or injury to a member or guest. • Authorise requests by members who wish to bring guests into the Shed. • Ensure that the Shed is fully secured at the end of each day’s activities, with all lights and equipment turned off. • Ensure that members details are stored securely and remain confidential. • Approve the joining of and induction of new members. • Promptly raise any significant issues which may affect the smooth running of the Shed with the Age UK Herne Bay and Whitstable line manager. • Undertake any training necessary to carry out the role. • Take part in regular steering group meetings with the Shed Head team and Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable.
