Volunteer Befriender

The Befriending service involves volunteers making one to one visit to older people in Herne Bay, Whitstable and surrounding areas. There are many older people who are isolated and who have little or no social contact and the aim of The Befriending Scheme is to alleviate loneliness, anxiety and depression by providing companionship.
• To visit an older person or a carer of an older person in their own home on a regular basis and form an ongoing relationship. • Arranging regular and in most cases weekly visits to the older person • Providing company to alleviate isolation and loneliness • Using good listening skills to enable the client to express themselves • Being aware of the possibility that the client is feeling depressed or anxious • To fill in contact sheets and to report back to your line manager any concerns or issues you may encounter • Attend regular meetings with line manager • Adhere to Age UK Herne Bay’s policies and procedures such as Confidentiality, Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities.
