Paws - Walk and Talk Volunteer
Ashford Volunteer Centre
Love dogs and walking? Join Paws-Walk & Talk! This new project helps lonely, inactive elderly people get out and about with the company of a friendly volunteer and their dog. We match dog owners with an older person for gentle walks and conversation, helping to build confidence, connection, and wellbeing. If you have a friendly dog and some time to spare, we’d love to have you on board!
Do you enjoy walking your dog and chatting with people? Paws-Walk & Talk is a new volunteer project helping lonely, inactive elderly people get moving—one friendly dog walk at a time. We’re looking for dog owners and interested volunteers who can spare a little time to walk with an elderly person who could use some company. The idea is simple: people with dogs often find it easier to start conversations, and we want to use that natural connection to encourage those who may feel isolated to get out and about. As a volunteer, you’ll be paired with an elderly person for relaxed, one-to-one walks starting from AVC, using Victoria Park or other nearby routes. We’re aiming to support 10 people with regular walks, plus run a group dog walk for a little extra socialising. Walks will be fortnightly, and there’s no pressure on distance—just getting out more than before is a win! You will need a DBS check and we’ll cover this. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, we’d love to hear from you!
