Learning and Engagement - Workshop Assistant

Kent Mining Museum

Learning and Engagement volunteers will support the delivery of the Learning and Engagement programme of the Kent Mining Museum, designed for schools and local community.

Detailed Description

Workshop Assistant volunteers will support and on occasion lead the delivery of the Learning and Engagement programme, designed for schools and local community. The Learning and Engagement programme will largely take place at The Kent Mining Museum, however there will on occasion be visits to schools (if interested and able) and local community groups to support the delivery of the Learning and Engagement programme. The volunteers will spend time with the Learning and Engagement team and help prepare spaces in the Learning Centre and inside The Kent Mining Museum. They will encourage participants to engage with the site's mining heritage, natural environment, and the collection. They will use brilliant communication skills to share their passion and enthusiasm for the local history with young people ranging from 4-18 years and local community groups from a wide age range. This role is perfect for someone who loves sharing their stories, being creative, engaging local communities and young people, inspiring people to take part in a wide range of activities and encouraging people to express themselves and learn new skills and gain confidence.

Why these skills are required

-Enjoy being with and can communicate well with a diverse range of people -Be willing to work with a diverse group of individuals - Have an interest in the arts and education and be prepared to support arts and crafts activities (you don’t need to be a talented artist yourself!) - Willingness to try activities and set an example to students. - Some experience working with young people, i.e. previous experience working in a school, youth or educational environment -Have good timekeeping and are reliable -Have enthusiasm and positive attitude to provide high standard services in participant engagement and customer service - Enjoy sharing stories and confidence to address on occasion groups of 30+ people - Patience and a friendly manner
