The Big Cat Sanctuary is looking for an enthusiastic Volunteer Maintenance Assistant, to join our friendly team and help take care of our wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces. If you have good general DIY skills, like working outdoors and would like to support the Big Cat Sanctuary in your spare time, this could be the role for you. General hours are 08.00-17.00 daily, although there is some flexibility.
The Big Cat Sanctuary is looking for an enthusiastic Volunteer Maintenance Assistant, to join our friendly team and help take care of our wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces. If you have good general DIY skills, like working outdoors and would like to support the Big Cat Sanctuary in your spare time, this could be the role for you. General hours are 08.00-17.00 daily, although there is some flexibility. The focus of this post is to carry out reactive, planned and preventative building, carpentry & maintenance services across The Big Cat Sanctuary (BCS) site, with the goal being the construction and maintenance of strong and long-lasting buildings and products. Principal Duties & Responsibilities include: • To ensure all equipment, machinery and buildings are kept secure and to be aware of and report any security risks posed within the site • Assist in the implementation of a preventative maintenance programme for the site; ensuring all buildings & enclosures are serviced and maintained to appropriate standards • Contribute to the progression of all maintenance work • Ensure an up-to-date knowledge of relevant best practice and statutory regulations, including Health and Safety and environmental legislation • Actioning ‘red alerts’ as notified by the husbandry team immediately (i.e. concerns re enclosure safety) • Work within the guidelines of health & safety procedures to ensure animal, personal and visitor security • The use and maintenance of hand tools and basic light machinery and plant • Maintain understanding of all emergency procedures; coordinate & engage in practice routines • (In partnership with other team members) ensure servicing, maintenance and upkeep of all vehicles loaned to/owned by BCS, including (but not limited to) weekly fuel, oil and water checks & ensure all associated documentation is kept up-to-date • Complete daily/weekly/monthly checklists as required • Interact with members of the public in a courteous and professional manner at all times
