No Panic Helpline Volunteer
No Panic
We are looking for more volunteers to take calls on the No Panic Helpline. Every day we take multiple calls from people suffering from severe anxiety and desperate for help. Our volunteers are trained to provide reassurance to callers and explore with them ways to manage their anxiety. Everything is done from home, including training. Please note that, as well as using your phone for taking calls, you will need a computer with internet connection for Zoom meetings and admin.
No Panic is a national charity at the frontline of accessible help for anxiety sufferers. The No Panic Helpline is open 365 days a year between 10am and 10pm. Those who call us can be struggling across a range of anxiety disorders: OCD; Panic Attacks; Phobias or General Anxiety Disorder. We are inviting applications from those wishing to join our helpline team. We train our helpline volunteers to provide sufferers with all the information they need to begin the process of self-help recovery. This is a remote volunteering opportunity where everything is done from home, including training, and there is never a need to attend elsewhere. This makes it the ideal opportunity for those with mobility or fitness issues. Our volunteers work a 3-hour shift once a week. Initial training is one evening a week for 8 weeks (for a small charge of £25 to cover costs), with backup support for the first 8 weeks on the helpline. There is continued support via bimonthly support groups.
Advice, Information & Support
Listening, Basic IT skills - internet & email, Talking To Others
An ideal Helpliner has an interest in anxiety disorders and the following skills: • Ability to provide empathetic listening. • Ability to pass on information on self-help techniques. • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. We provide an 8-week training course of one hour per week, attended from home, to equip you to take the calls.
This is a work from home opportunity, so fitness and mobility are not an issue. If you have suffered from anxiety yourself, helping others can be very fulfilling. If you are a psychology or counselling student, we will provide you with references after one year. You can go on to be trained to become a mentor, helping those with the most difficult conditions.
Helpline shifts are 1 three-hour shift per week. Training is 1 1/2 hours, one evening a week for 8 weeks. Support groups are 1 hour bi-monthly.
