Kitchen Volunteer

Catching Lives

Catching Lives is looking for new volunteers to join our kitchen team to prepare meals for the homeless clients who access our day centre.

Detailed Description

Assisting with the preparation, cooking and serving of food to clients who access our centre. Helping to maintain a high standard of hygiene, including personal hygiene, and ensuring the kitchen and all kitchen equipment are cleaned after use. The usual kitchen volunteer shift is 8:30am – 13:30pm. We set a simple menu for 3-4 volunteers to prepare.

Why these skills are required

• Basic cooking skills, and basic food hygiene awareness is essential (please feel free to contact us for further clarification if required). • Good communication skills, honesty and reliability. • Enthusiastic and willing to learn. • Empathy towards our client base. • An ability to maintain clear professional boundaries with clients in a consistent manner at all times. • The ability to work as part of a team. • Willingness to work with, and value the contribution of other volunteers. • Ability to work in an organized and systematic manner. • Committed to taking part in food preparation, cleaning tasks and hygiene training.

The centre is a 10 minute walk from the central bus hub in Canterbury. It is opposite Canterbury East Station and a 20-25 minute walk from Canterbury West Station. There is no parking on site but there are some residential roads near by that you can park at for free. Speak to Rosie when organising a visit to find out these roads.
