Detailed Description

We are looking for more volunteers to COOK, SHARE and CARE for someone in their community. Could you deliver an extra portion of your home cooked food (as and when you can) to someone living nearby who would benefit from the delicious meal and a friendly chat? We will match you with a neighbour who enjoys the same type of food as you, who would benefit from your meal delivered with some company and conversation. The majority of volunteer cooks share an extra portion of their home cooked food once a week. However, the volunteering role is flexible, with many volunteers delivering less frequently or more often.

Why these skills are required

To volunteer with us you don’t need any specific food/cooking related experience and we don’t need to check your kitchen. However, food hygiene is really important to us at Food Friends. We aim to develop trust and accountability within our community so, as a volunteer cook, it’s your responsibility to only serve food that you would be happy to eat yourself. We provide you with some basic food hygiene guidance before you start and are happy to fund food hygiene training for anyone who would like to access it. We also give you some goodies to help you safely COOK, SHARE and CARE – reusable insulated food carriers, a fridge thermometer, food labels and a level 2 Food Hygiene information booklet.

What is in it for you

Firstly, and most importantly, sharing food feels great! Volunteering with us is super flexible. Many volunteers are also working full time so we ensure our sign up process fits around a hectic week. It's a great opportunity to connect with someone in your community who you would otherwise not cross paths with. We are always happy to fund additional training to help you on your Food Friends journey. We are a super supportive organisations who places great importance on ensuring that our volunteers are enjoying their experience. You will have the opportunity to meet other member of the Food Friends community at one of our celebration lunches (we hold these twice a year).

Time Commitment

The majority of volunteers share some home cooked food once a week, some less often, and some more frequently. Being a volunteer cook is flexible and we would love to hear from anyone interested in sharing extra portions of home cooked food, and forging a new local connection. We can make it work for you. The most important thing is to be open and honest about what you're looking to do. COOKING, SHARING and CARING is great, so we want to encourage as many people to be involved as possible.
