Trainee adviser

Citizens Advice Swale

You will advise members of the public about a range of issues such as benefits, employment, debt, housing, helping them find a way forward with the problems they face. Full training is provided.

Detailed Description

We are currently looking for volunteers to train to become advisers. As an adviser you will help provide an effective and efficient advice service to members of the public to move them on with their problem. You will help influence government and other organisations by informing them of the effect of their actions on the lives of clients. The role consists of meeting people face to face, speaking to them over the phone or communicating by email. Our volunteers go through the client's query, assisting with information and giving them advice on specific issues. Full training is provided and travel expenses will be paid.

You don’t need specific qualifications or skills but you’ll need to: - be friendly and approachable - be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own - have good listening skills - have excellent verbal and written communication skills - have good maths and IT skills - be able to understand information and explain it to others - be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection - be willing to undertake training in your role

Time Commitment

Ideally we ask for you to be available for 2 advice sessions a week, for at least 12 months. We can be flexible so come and talk to us.
