Court Volunteer - Margate Magistrates Court

Citizens Advice Witness Service

Our trained volunteers provide practical information about the court process, as well as emotional support to help witnesses feel more confident when giving evidence.

Detailed Description

The Witness Service provides practical and emotional support and information to witnesses, so that they feel valued, respected and informed and able to give their best evidence in court. The role is court based and will involve providing support to witnesses, and their supporters, by explaining the court procedures and legal terminology, showing them around the courtroom before trials, and sitting in the courtroom with them, when permitted. We can offer excellent insight into the Criminal Justice System and experience of supporting others during a difficult time. We are looking for volunteers for Margate Magistrates Court, who can help on a Monday 9-5 or Friday 9-5 (currently each day fortnightly)

Why these skills are required

No requirement for knowledge of court system. We look for volunteers who are friendly, empathetic and non-judgemental. Basic IT skills to communicate by email and complete some online training.
