Working alongside the local emergency services every day, from house fires and flooding to power cuts and water shortages, the British Red Cross will respond. As an Emergency Response Volunteer, you will give people the support they need at a time they need it the most.
When there is a fire, flood or severe weather, we’re among the first to respond. From making a cup of tea to delivering the essentials, we work with other organisations to do what’s needed straight away to help those in crisis. Volunteers for this role will need to: Be able to reach our base British Red Cross, 1 Hermitage Court, Hermitage Lane, Maidstone, Kent (ME16 9NT) within 30 minutes. Attend monthly team meeting. Be available for 2 x 12hr on-call shifts per month. Undertake refresher training, as required. Have held a driving licence for at least 2 years which allows you to drive manual vehicles in the UK. Have access to your own vehicle and be willing to drive a British Red Cross vehicle, which is usually a large van, SUV or 4x4. Respond to emergency call outs in your local area, across the county and sometimes in support of larger incidents further afield.
