Volunteer Befriender
Evergreen Care UK
As a befriender, you will build a lasting relationship with an older person, who is lonely and/or bereaved. You will be required to spend a minimum of 1 hour per week with your befriendee, either in their home or for a short trip out. This will be a mutually rewarding and enriching experience for both the befriender and client.
The Purpose of this role is to provide an older person who is in need of social engagement, is lonely or bereaved, with an opportunity to develop a wholesome and mutually caring relationship with a willing partner (Befriender). We do our best to match befrienders and clients with similar interests. Activities may include visits to the client’s home, cuppa and a chat, a little trip out, shopping or visiting places of interest together. Whatever both parties are happy to be involved in.

Talking To Others, Listening
The ability to communicate effectively with an older person. Caring, empathetic and a good sense of humour would be an advantage.
A sense of achievement, from making a difference in someone's life, through friendship and relieving loneliness. A renewed sense of purpose in life. The chance to meet and communicate with other volunteers at our monthly social get together.
