Why these skills are required

Many of the clients are often experiencing significant challenges in their lives, and find engagement with support agencies difficult. Our FoodStop volunteers are able to be the first point of contact with these “hard to reach” people, and encourage them to access our Homeless Support Service at the Rainbow Centre, where assistance is available by appointment. So, are you a compassionate person who has time to share with a team working hard to reduce food poverty and help those in need? If you would like to join our friendly team of volunteers, or would like to know more about volunteering with the Rainbow Centre, please contact us. The Rainbow Centre appreciates that there are many skills out there and we hope to utilise them all. Some of the skills that would be useful to succeed in this role are (but not limited to): - The ability to get on with others from backgrounds possibly different from your own and work as part of a team. - The ability to work with those in crisis. - This role includes standing, lifting and being outside in all weathers. Therefore, good physical fitness is desirable. - Open to giving and receiving feedback to and from the FoodStop Coordinator - Willingness to participate in any relevant training and information update sessions

What is in it for you

The Rainbow Centre strives to be a diverse recruiter of volunteers, so we offer a range of benefits to all of our volunteers. We offer letters of recommendation to volunteers, who have completed at least three months of consecutive volunteering. An opportunity to learn new skills or brush up on skills you may not have used in a while, through our Volunteer Development & Training plan. We hold regular Volunteer appreciation events as well as Open Days, giving volunteers a chance to given their feedback and meet other volunteers from other services. “…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good work…” – Matthew 5:16
